From Barack Obama’s Letter to the Disability Community

Barack Obama
October 23, 2008
Dear Friends,

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and sincerely thank you for gathering here
today to support our movement for change…

In my administration, we will address the shameful employment situation for persons
with disabilities – not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because we can’t
afford not to…

You shouldn’t be locked out of the workplace. Children with disabilities shouldn’t be
languishing in failing schools that doom them to a life of second-class citizenship.
Your talents and energies must not go to waste…

You know that it’s our time for change…Together, we can achieve full equality for
Americans with disabilities. Together, we can create the changes we seek.

Sincerely,

President Obama's Signature
