WHO WE ARE

The Committee on Disability Power & Pride mobilizes all Americans with disabilities, and our families, friends and allies, to speak with one powerful voice. Power & Pride changes public perceptions of disability by promoting leadership, fostering dialogue and unity, and empowering individuals to become active citizens.

WHAT WE DO

Leadership

Individuals who hold elected and appointed office have a direct impact on our lives. Leaders with disabilities have the power to change our perceptions as well as our laws by dispelling stereotypes. Power & Pride supports candidates with disabilities who are committed to issues confronting the disability community, irrespective of political party affiliation. We also work closely with officials at the White House and throughout the Executive Branch to find and place qualified applicants from the disability community into critical positions within the Administration.

Dialogue
Power & Pride’s Dialogues facilitate open communication among community members, community leaders, and public officials. Dialogues generate new & creative ideas and approaches to politics, culture, and technology; they equip community leaders with the information they need to succeed; and they foster collaboration and cross-organizational relationships.

Unity
Power & Pride events promote unity among the full spectrum of the disability community. They are a tradition, born of our founding, that unites and strengthens our movement through celebration and camaraderie.

Identity
The Power & Pride identity campaign calls on all Americans with disabilities and our allies to show their solidarity by displaying the Power & Pride logo. The campaign will launch in Summer 2010 in honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

OUR LOGO

The “&” (ampersand) symbolizes our shared identity. Disability is a natural part of life, yet only one part. We have disabilities, & our friends & family have disabilities. We are architects, athletes, entertainers, businesspeople, politicians, artists, engineers, citizens, neighbors, friends, & we – or our loved ones – have disabilities. We are people with disabilities. We are people with Power & Pride.
